Kirb’s Round 7 Wrap
In trying conditions, a fair swag of League Players ventured out onto the course yesterday to help their teams perform well. Understandably numbers were down, the lowest for the season (110). Despite dodging most of the drizzly rain, conditions were tough – from all the heavy rain during the past few weeks.
Charlies Angels clocked up a percentage boosting win against the poor Yering Diamonds, winning by 25 points (143-118). The other 5 matches were very close with the biggest margin 5 points.
With 4 rounds left to play it’s still anyone’s chance to make the Final Five. With losses again yesterday, Haleys Comets and Yering Diamonds will be hard-pressed to get to the finals, although mathematically they still could sneak in if they can manage some big wins. The remaining 10 teams are all very much still in it, with only one game separating 10th (Brits) and 4th place (Yering Storm).
Young Guns continued their recent strong form with an exciting 2 point win over the powerful Golden Dragons. Both these two teams are sitting on top, having only lost 2 games for the season. Only half a game behind them are Charlies Angels who have finally found their old form. Mitcham Twilighters and Croydon Blues both registered close wins and are looming as big threats for the Finals. Rebel team Yering Storm lost their second consecutive close game but are still right in the mix in 4th position.
Round 8 will be played next Saturday 11th July – let’s hope the weather is kind to us and the course recovers a bit from the drenching it’s been recently copping. After Round 8 there will be a fortnight break before two more consecutive rounds, leaving only one round left after that.
Keep rolling up for your teams, League Players. You’ve been amazing, attending all these games in cold and wet conditions!
