Management and Committee had a meeting this week regarding the course maintenance and improvements that are planned in the near future.  Here are some key takeaways:

  • John Sloan, Course Management Consultant, has reviewed the Yering Golf Course practices and has a draft report which details areas of improvement and recommendations. These area currently with management for consideration and implementation.
  • Course architects including Mike Clayton & Harley Cruze have attended the course and reviewed the course structure and playability and having done the walk thru with his group we can say it’s very positive. Initial draft of this report is expected to be early next year (Feb 2024). This will cover: bunker layout and management, green maintenance and preparation, vegetation management and equipment required for the management of the course.
  • Tim Vegt, soon to start as Course Superintendent at YM is highly regarded by John and Mike. Tim will be responsible for the professional development of his staff and developing plans to address all the keys areas of concern (of which there are numerous). Some of the committee are going to meet with Tim on the 20th of December to have a meet and greet and get a feel for his management style.
  • Yering Management have entered into an agreement with Golf Buying Group who can buy/negotiate course materials at vastly cheaper rates (chemical, fuel, equipment) which means resources can be appointed to other much-needed areas.
  • We currently have a full compliment of staff in the course management area, 10 grounds staff plus 1 maintenance crew member.
