YMMA February – March 2024 Update

Course Improvement Plan Information Night

Yering Meadows Golf Club held an Information Night for members on Wednesday 14th February. Approximately 60 members attended where Mike Clayton, Harley Cruse, Lukas Michel, John Sloan and Tim Vegt walked through the masterplan for the course and gave their views and vision for Yering Meadows into the future. The meeting went for approximately 2 hours with lots of questions and comments along the way.

From a Yering Meadows Management perspective, they have committed the resources to have stage 1 and stage 2 course improvements completed which consists of removing bunkers, repairing the ones remaining, tee relocations, reshaping artificial mounding and vegetation & tree management.

Course Improvement Plan update

The work started on 5th February.  The CDP (Clayton, Devries & Pont) group are certainly moving along with planned works and into the 4th week now. I was at the course yesterday (Thursday 29th Feb) and took a quick tour with Tim Vegt and the changes made so far look great. Turf is being re-laid where the bunkers have been removed and trees and shrubs removed or trimmed. The works have progressed to hole 9 and anything left behind is waiting on ground works to move underground water pipes or drainage.

To this point bunkers have been removed and reshaped on Holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and I believe 9 this week as well.  Vegetation removal has also started on these holes, and you will see a huge difference on Hole 6 where the creek in front of the green has been cleared. There is a lot more planned for these holes from a vegetation perspective and also once they start to rejuvenate the remaining bunkers.

Yering Meadows Course Superintendent Update – Tim Vegt

Whilst CDP have been concentrating on holes 1-9, Tim and his team have also been busy elsewhere on the course assisted by a small team of helpers (Ian Muntz, Ray Clark , Keith Roberts, Trevor Mair and Mary-Lou Mair) commonly referred to as “Dad’s Army”.  You will see a number of improvements around the course where vegetation (particularly Lomandra) is being removed and trees being removed or trimmed.

The team have also started spraying the blackberries around the course so please don’t eat.

Pennant Season 2024

No doubt most will have started to see the results coming through for all our Pennant teams. The last to start are the ladies which kick off on 1st March. Good luck to all those playing.

Congratulations to the winners, Jan Scane, Shane McDonnell, Marcus Holdsworth and Jen McLeod. The next mixed event in on Sunday 24th March. Watch out for entry flyer on website and in foyer and noticeboards.
