Hi all,
To date,
– 21 Bunkers have been removed / filled in.
– 36 still to be done hopefully by end of May 2024 (weather permitting).
– Remaining bunkers to be reassessed though winter months and more may be removed if considered necessary. Some drainage points lower than water table and therefore drainage is ineffective.
– Fixing play ability of remaining bunkers is the key issue facing members.
– Some irrigation lines preventing completion in some of the work areas.
– Trailer now available to assist with transfer of material around course.
– Mound at the back right side of the 6th green to be used to fill both right front bunkers of 6th green.
– Remove bunker right hand side of 12th green. (12th tee to be relocated to right of current location)
– Areas between greens and tees to be short grassed wherever possible.
– Returfing / seeding is ongoing in GUR areas. Turf may need to be bought in to facilitate faster improvement to playing conditions.
– Some trees removed / trimmed by ground staff. Others require contractors to complete e.g. gum tree to the front left-hand side of 20th tee.
– Ground staff continue to cleanup, trim & remove unwanted vegetation around course and reeds in waterways.
– Capillary follow concrete may not be used in remaining bunkers, other alternatives to be investigated.
– Greens to be undergo hard coring in September 2024.
Work is on track thanks to the good weather conditions so hopefully this keeps up. We recently hosted Men’s Division 5 Pennant at Yering and the feedback was excellent. They loved the new work being carried out, greens were running around the 10.5-11 speed, the views were spectacular and the weather perfect. In all a great day. Thanks to the volunteers on the day with course management, cooking and setting up. The bar staff also did a great job of catering to the 70 odd players, managers and caddies on the day.
