As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality playing surfaces year-round, our Course Superintendent, Tim, has outlined the upcoming winter greens aeration schedule.
This week, we have commenced solid tining (8mm) on holes 19–27. The recent increase in algae on these greens has made aeration essential to improve turf health and playing conditions. We expect minimal disruption, and the holes should have little to no impact by the weekend.
Looking ahead, greens aeration will take place each week on a different set of holes during scheduled course closures. The upcoming plan includes:
-
Next Week (holes 1–9) – Aeration will begin Tuesday, following the scheduled event on Monday.
-
Short Game and 28th greens – Will be aerated while holes 1–9 are closed.
-
Clubhouse Putting Green – Will be aerated while holes 10–18 are closed.
Please note:
-
If a set of 9 holes is closed for consecutive weeks, the aeration schedule will be paused until the next rotation.
-
This approach allows us to carry out vital turf maintenance with minimal impact on play, aiming to complete a full cycle of greens aeration ideally once per month.
What is Solid Tining?
Solid tining is a non-invasive greens aeration method where small, solid metal spikes (in this case, 8mm wide) are used to punch holes into the turf. This process improves soil oxygen levels, enhances drainage, and relieves compaction without removing any soil. Unlike core aeration, it causes minimal surface disruption, allowing for faster recovery and smoother playing conditions.
