Round 7 – Sunday 21st April

Yering Meadows 3 lost to Gisborne 4 at Patterson River

Another close loss on Sunday at Patterson River, with our Vice Captain Justin Lawlor coming from behind at the #1 position to win on the 18th hole. It was truly fantastic golf to watch… being 2 down with 4 to play, Justin won the 15th, 16th and 18th holes to finish with a 1 up win to cap off a great season for him, only losing one match throughout the season – which was a narrow loss on the 18th hole.  A massive win to one of our first-year players Scott Maizels, winning his match 6&4.  Peter Farrell also had a great win with a 3&2 result.

    1. Justin Lawlor won 1 up
    2. Joel Simons lost 4&3
    3. Simon Carey lost 3&2
    4. Scott Maizels won 6&4
    5. Gary Roza lost 2&1
    6. Peter Farrell won 3&2
    7. Josh McDonell lost 4&2

So we have consolidated our position in Div 5 after being promoted last season, the standard this year has been truly amazing.  We were continually coming up against teams consisting of two, three or even four “plus” markers and we saw some great golf every round.  During the season we lost to the eventual finalists by the closest of margins (4-3) so we really weren’t far off where we needed to be.  We will continue to improve, and continue to strive for the ultimate prize next time.

That’s it from me for the season, a big thank you to all of the caddies for their hard work and for the members that came to the matches to support the team.

Thank you as always to YMMA, YMGC and our wonderful members for your ongoing support.
